Shelving can be an efficient way to get your doll’s storage container off the floor, but it must be done with safety and stability as the top priorities. A poorly chosen shelf is a significant falling hazard for a heavy doll.

The most important factor is weight capacity. Your doll, plus its rigid storage container, can easily weigh over 100 pounds. You need heavy-duty shelving, like the kind found in garages or utility rooms, made from steel and rated for several hundred pounds per shelf. Do not trust flimsy particleboard or decorative floating shelves with this task.

For stability, always use the bottom shelf. This keeps the center of gravity low and dramatically reduces the risk of the entire shelving unit tipping over. If you must use a higher shelf, it is absolutely essential to anchor the shelving unit securely to the wall studs using anti-tip hardware. The storage container itself should be a rigid, opaque trunk that fits on the shelf with enough clearance to slide it in and out easily. This arrangement, preferably inside a closet or a secure room, combines the space-saving benefit of shelving with the necessary safety measures to protect your investment.
